Christmas Tower Card By Wendy Walters

Christmas Tower Card By Wendy Walters | Jamie Rodgers Crafts Blog

Hello Crafters......

I love the challenge of making unusual card designs or construction cards, so when I spotted this shaped card on the online.... I just had to give it a go......

The magic of this card design, is that it folds flat which is perfect for posting!

I have added a couple of pictures below, so you can see a different view of how it folds.

Right - lets' start.....

Step One

You will need a piece of card measuring 7 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches, and three pieces measuring 4 inches by 5 1/2 inches.

I've chosen to use Elite Card as this is a great weight and durability for construction cards.

Here I've chosen Romantic Red.

Taking the larger piece of card, along the 7 1/2 inch side, you need to score at the following points :-)

▪️ 1/2 inch

▪️1 1/2 inches

▪️ 2 1/2 inches

▪️3 1/2 inches

NOTE - The half inch is for the tab, and you will need to snip the corners off.

See in the picture below.

You can now burnish all the other score lines.

Step Two

Now we need to make the tower.....

To do this, you need to put glue on the tab part (the 1/2 inch section).

I find the easiest way to glue this, is by folding the tab part down and then folding it up.

This means you have a score line in-between the glued tab and the fold.

Stick this down (as seen in my picture below - excuse my fingers lol).

Once the glue has had time to bond, you should be able to open it up.

It should look like the second picture below.

Next to glue the "wings" on.......

See the picture above to see how I did this!.

Now it's best to fold the base flat and put the glue on the next section, however, don't go to close to the edges.

Line up one of the wings, making sure that it is level with the other one.

Let each wing bond before moving onto the next...

The picture below illustrates all three wings glued on, and how yours should look at this stage. And it is as simple as that... your card base is finished

Step Three

Now for the fun part of decorating the wings......

Here I used gold pearl card for my panels.

You will need four panels, each measuring 3 3/4 x 5 1/2 inches, and another four measuring 2 3/4 x 5 1/4 inches .

You could choose to use patterned paper, however just remember you will need one of the bigger panels in a light / plain colour for your sentiment and to write on.

I stamped on two of the bigger ones using a Black Panther Quick Dry Pigment Ink Pad and the stamps The Gift of Christmas and Rodney The Snowman.

On the third largest one, I used the Christmas Icons Stencil, but masked a line across the top before using Rose Quartz Gemstones Glitter Texture Paste.

Once the top line had dried, I repeated the same process along the bottom of the panel.

Once dry, I stamped a sentiment in the middle from the Christmas Sentiment Colllection. On my last big panel, I stamped the Pinstrip Elegance Stamp, again using my Black Panther Ink and then lined up the christmas icons between the lines in Rose Quartz Texture Paste.

I will let you in on a secret.....

I created the icons and stripes piece on a large sheet of card first, and then cut it to the size I needed lol! See my picture below

Step Four

I stamped all the smaller panels the same.

On the top and bottom, I stamped my images in Black Panther again, using the corner stamp from The Gift Of Christmas and the stocking in the middle.

Colouring Rodney and Father Christmas and my small panels.....

I wanted to make Rodney the star of the show.... so I decided to get creative.

I mixed a little of the Diamond White and Larimer Gemstones Glitter Texture Paste together, before applying it to his body with a paint brush!

With Father Christmas, I used the Diamond White alone for his fur.

I coloured all my other elements with watercolour pencils whilst watching TV!

Don't tell anyone lol!

For the small panels, I added a little Rose Quartz to the stocking as well.

Step Five

Last step - adhering the panels to the tower.....

Remember how we created the wings earlier? We are going to follow this process again.

I found it easier to have the base flat, and once you've glued the first panel on, use that as a guide to line up the next one. See picture below

NOTE - Now, when you put your panels on, don't forget that you need the one which you are going to write on at the back.

So if you have a couple of panels (like Rodney and Father Christmas) they would need to be facing forwards, and the panel to write on needs to be behind one of them.

I would suggest that you have a dry run at this, as such placing them where you want before gluing them.

Well that's my card complete...

I hope this has given you some inspiration to give a shaped card a go....

It's a super fun card to make, and could created for many different occasions during the year... not just for Christmas :-)

Thank you, and I look forward to sharing my next blog with you soon!
